AB Azərbaycandan təhlükəsizlik orqanlarının hərəkətlərini təhqiq etməyə çağırır

01 dekabr, 2005, Brüssel (Reuters) - Avropa Birliyi cümə axşamı Azərbaycanı 26 oktyabrda müxalifətin mitinqini dağıdan zaman təhlükəsizlik orqanlarının hərəkətlərini təhqiq etməyi tələb edib. Bildirilir ki, təhlükəsizlik qüvvələri dinc nümayişi dağıdan zaman dəyənəklərdən və su maşınlarından istifadə edib.

AB hesab edir ki, Azərbaycan hakimiyyəti mitinqin dinc vasitələrlə başa çatmasına nail olmaq üçün heç bir cəhd göstərməyib. Aksiyada müxalifət son parlament seçkilərində baş verdiyi guman olunan saxtakarlıqlara etiraz edirdi.

Reuters informasiya agentliyinin jurnalisti özü hadisə zamanı onlarla insanın kəllə-beyin travması aldığının şahidi olmuşdu.

AB-nin 25 ölkənin qol qoyduğu bəyanatında sonra bildirilir: "Avropa Birliyi Azərbaycan hakimiyyətindən təhlükəsizlik orqanlarının davranışına dair dərhal təhqiqat aparılmasını və harada lazımdırsa orada müvafiq qərarlar verməyi tələb edir!"

Bəyanatda, həmçinin, Azərbaycanın müvafiq orqanları tərəfdən seçkilərdə baş vermiş bir sıra saxtakarlıq hallarına dair suallara cavab verilmədiyindən də narahatçılıq ifadə olunub.

Çərşənbə günü Avropa Komissiyasının prezidenti Jose Manuel Barroso Azərbaycanın qonşusu Gürcüstanın baş nazirinə deyib ki, "Gürcüstanı AB-yə nə qədər mümkünsə, bir o qədər yaxın buraxmalıyıq"

EU urges action against Azerbaijan security forces

BRUSSELS, Dec 1 (Reuters) - The European Union called on Azerbaijan on Thursday to take action against security forces who used force to break up an opposition rally, saying they had made no effort no disperse demonstrators peacefully.

The EU's call came after police in the capital, Baku, used truncheons and water cannon on Nov. 26 to break up a protest by opposition supporters complaining of fraud in an election earlier in November.

A Reuters reporter at the scene saw dozens of protesters with head wounds after riot police dispersed about 10,000 people from a square in the outskirts of Baku.

"The European Union calls on the authorities of Azerbaijan urgently to carry out an investigation into the conduct of the security forces and, where necessary, to take appropriate action," the 25-nation bloc said in a statement.

"The European Union is deeply concerned at the conduct of the security forces in choosing to use force to break up an opposition demonstration ... which had been sanctioned by the authorities."

The statement added concerns that Azerbaijan's appeals and complaints procedure had not resolved a number of complaints or reports of fraud in the election.

Former Soviet Azerbaijan is one of a number of countries with which the EU is developing closer ties under its new European neighbourhood policy.

Under the policy, Brussels is drawing up tailor-made action plans outlining work over three years during which the EU will give assistance for building up institutions and administrative capacity to bring these countries closer to the bloc.

On Wednesday, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso told the prime minister of Azerbaijan's neighbour, Georgia, that he wanted to bring Tbilisi "as close as possible to the European Union".
